Artyzen Singapore: hotel review

Our Artyzen Singapore review takes you on an in-depth tour of one of Singapore’s most stunning design-forward luxury hotels.

Artyzen Singapore recently became one of only seven Singapore hotels to be awarded the coveted Michelin Key. But does it deserve the accolade? We check in to find out.

I can tell I’m going to love Artyzen Singapore the moment I walk through the doors. The striking contemporary design with its soaring archways, glittering light fittings and colourful elevator murals has me in awe from the get-go.

Inspired by the city’s rich culture, vibrant colours, and diverse flavours, this luxury Singapore hotel seamlessly blends heritage features and contemporary luxury.

Located on the site of a former sprawling tropical-garden mansion known as “Villa Marie,” the hotel draws inspiration from the heritage architecture and culture of this Singapore icon and delivers it with a contemporary and striking twist.

The high ceilings, verandas, lush courtyard gardens, archways and terracotta roof tiles from the original villa are all reinterpreted in the hotel design, combined with a distinct nod to the Peranakan shophouse architecture Singapore is famous for.

Although now a modern high-rise hotel, the abundant green spaces still hark back to this former tropical oasis. Designed as villas stacked vertically, you’ll find pockets of greenery throughout the hotel, from the communal social spaces to the impressive sky gardens that adorn each suite.

Reasons to love Artyzen Singapore

  • The design-forward aesthetic is incredibly stylish.
  • It has a great location, just a stone’s throw from Orchard Road.
  • The rooftop, with its infinity pool and bar, is a vibe.
  • It is one of only seven hotels in Singapore to be awarded a Michelin Key.

Hotel Location

If you are here to hit the shops, or just to explore Singapore, you will love the hotel’s location just off Orchard Road.

The shopping malls of Orchard Road are a short stroll away, where you will not only find Singapore’s largest selection of retail outlets, but also a variety of food courts and restaurants.

It is also just steps away from the UNESCO-listed Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Orchard and Orchard Boulevard MRT stations are less than a 10-minute walk, making it easy to explore Singapore by public transport.

taxi from Changi airport should take around 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Rooms at Artyzen Singapore

There are 142 rooms and suites at Artyzen Singapore. Mine is a Deluxe Balcony King room, a spacious and luxurious retreat on the 14th floor.

As soon as I enter through the barrel-vaulted entryway, I am struck by the bold colour palette, the soaring 4-metre ceiling and the same stunning design aesthetic echoed from the hotel lobby below.

The Peranakan influence is striking, with a shophouse mural above the bed and the arched entryway reminiscent of the five-foot ways that feature on the shophouses around Singapore.

The floor-to-ceiling windows and carefully placed mirrors allow plenty of light to flow in and around the room. The chaise lounge with its colourful scatter cushions adds a pop of colour, and brings warmth and softness to the room.

The bed, I’m happy to report, is super comfy, with those cloud-like sink-in pillows you only seem to find in luxury hotels.

There’s a small desk area, which, with the mirror above, also doubles as a dressing table.

The mini bar is located here too, and I’m happy to find a selection of healthy snacks included. Granola bars and wholesome nut mixes feature alongside the usual chocolate bars and Pringles. There’s also an interesting mix of local craft beers and spirits to choose from.

USB sockets allow for easy charging of devices, and there’s a Bang & Olufsen bluetooth speaker so you can bring your own tunes.

One thing to note is that there are no international plug sockets in the room, so you will need to bring your international adaptor with you, if necessary.

I also note that there is no iron or ironing table in the room, although you can request one from housekeeping.

The bathroom offers more of the same locally-inspired contemporary styling. You’ll notice Peranakan tiling on the wallpaper, and this is subtly mirrored on the shower door.

The black and gold finishings make everything feel slick and luxurious, while the rainshower features the fresh citrus scent of Heeley Paris Zeste de Gingembre bath products.

The bathrobe is super-soft and fluffy and there’s even a Dyson hairdryer tucked away in the drawer.

A glass partition wall between the bedroom and bathroom does mean that light from the bathroom bleeds into the bedroom. However a separate WC hopefully means that you won’t be disturbed by a partner answering the call of nature in the nighttime.

Those looking for more space (and with more money to burn) should check out the Terrace Suite. This not only offers a bright and spacious living area adjoining the bedroom, but also a 90 square metre private sky garden, where nature embraces you in a serene retreat high above the bustling city

Hotel Facilities

The piece de resistance of Artyzen Singapore is arguably the rooftop area, with its swimming pool and rooftop bar.

The 25-metre cantilevered infinity pool offers sweeping views, which perfectly capture the duality of Singapore’s urban landscape. On one side, the bustling energy of Orchard Road, on the other, the serenity of the low-rise Nassim Hill area.

It’s the perfect place to spend a chillout day, or cool off with a quick dip after a day of sightseeing.

Its west-facing position also makes it a great spot for a lazy sundowner cocktail, and by late afternoon, the funky tunes kick in, creating an exclusive beach club vibe to the place.

Those feeling brave should check out the partially transparent base to the pool.

See that rectangle at the edge there? It has a glass bottom so brave swimmers can check out the view 21 floors below! It’s not for the faint-hearted. You can see my Instagram reel of it here.

I neglected to pack my gym gear (I get up enough of a sweat walking around Singapore). But, were I that way inclined, I would find a fully equipped gym on the fourth floor.

There’s also a meditation zone here and pavilions for yoga and exercise.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to book into the spa, but the signature Gemstone Odyssey massage sounds blissful.

It uses a selection of gemstones with specially infused herb oils to instil clarity, peace and confidence. Next time!

Food & Drink

There are three dining outlets to choose from at Artyzen Singapore – Quenino, Cafe Quenino and the Roof Garden.

Cafe Quenino

Open from morning til night, Café Quenino is the main casual dining destination at the hotel.

Situated just off the entrance lobby, it features floor-to-ceiling windows, framing views of the landscaped garden. Elevated pot plants also help bring the outdoors inside, making it the perfect spot for slow breakfasts and casual lunches.

I head here for breakfast every morning, loving the combination of the buffet spread for fruit, yoghurts and pastries, with an a la carte option for more substantial fare.

Breakfast mains are cooked to order, with basics such as Avocado Toast with eggs featuring alongside more interesting locally-inspired dishes such as Kaya Bread Pudding and the highly recommended Chilli Crab Omelette, which is served with a coconut basmati rice.

As the sun sets, Café Quenino transitions into a chic cocktail bar, NINE at CQ.

It’s a testament to the beautiful interior design that the space works as well as an evening bar as it does a breakfast restaurant. It’s impressive how dimming the lights and cranking up the tunes can transform the ambiance.

Offering a play on the Chinese word jiu (meaning both nine and alcohol) Nine at CQ specialises in its range of nine signature cocktails, each exploring a different flavour profile.

Alongside each cocktail, a bite-sized snack helps round out the flavour of the drink.

My chosen flavour profile is ‘Salty’ and my cocktail features Japanese gin infused with watermelon, finished off with soda. The accompanying snack, a mini toast topped with tomato jam and anchovy balances out the saltiness of the cocktail perfectly. So clever!

You can read more about my visit to Nine at CQ here.

Quenino

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Quenino is helmed by Chef Sujatha Asokan. The name “Quenino,” derived from the Malaccan Creole Portuguese term meaning ‘little one,’ celebrates the rich culinary heritage and authenticity of the area.

This fine dining restaurant features contemporary Asian cuisine, with acclaimed Hatted Chef Victor Liong from Melbourne also behind the innovative creations.

Both tasting menus and a la carte are on offer.

The Roof Garden

The Roof Garden, with its chillout tunes and breezy atmosphere, is my favourite place to hang out in the hotel.

I fight my jetlag on arrival sippng on a Lychee Fizz and enjoying the balmy evening air. Part of me laments that there aren’t more people here to create a buzz while another (larger) part appreciates the exclusive feel. I sit smugly, feeling like I’ve found a secret spot that nobody else knows about (yet!)

The cocktail menu here celebrates ‘the tastes we grew up with in Singapore – reimagined with a modern twist’. Don’t miss the Chendol-Lah, the Artyzen take on an Ice Kacang, laced with Koko Kanu Rum.

The Verdict

I’ve stayed in over 30 different hotels in Singapore, and this is definitely up there as one of my favourites. The luxe contemporary take on the traditional Singapore culture and heritage makes for a relaxed yet indulgent atmosphere.

My guestroom is large and beautiful, the bed is super comfy and the swimming pool area and rooftop garden is sensational.

I am sure that the recent awarding of a Michelin Key will bump this hotel to the top of many people’s wish lists – so book it now, before it gets booked out!
