Discover the best places to watch the sunset in Singapore, from Marina Bay and Mount Faber to peaceful beaches and rooftop bars with unforgettable views.

Singapore might not be the first destination that comes to mind when you think of spectacular sunsets, but spend a few evenings here and you may be pleasantly surprised.
Whether you’re watching the sky turn shades of pink and orange over Marina Bay, feeling the sea breeze on a beach in Sentosa or enjoying a drink high above the city, sunset is one of our favourite times of day in Singapore.
But in many ways, it’s not just about the sunset itself.
One of the things we love most is watching the city transform as day turns to night. The skyline begins to sparkle, the Supertrees light up, ships twinkle in the distance and Singapore takes on a completely different atmosphere.
As we like to say, in Singapore, sunset isn’t really the end of the day. It’s the beginning of the evening!
Here are some of the places we love to end the day in Singapore, whether that means watching the sun set over Marina Bay, enjoying the sea breeze on Sentosa or simply sitting back and admiring the city lights.
A Few Things to Know About Sunsets in Singapore
- Sunset is usually around 7pm all year round.
- Arrive 30-60 minutes before sunset to get a good spot.
- Afternoon storms can mean incredible skies… or no sunset at all.
- Stay after sunset because watching Singapore light up is half the fun.
- Bring insect repellent if you’re heading to parks and beaches.
Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade

If you’re visiting Singapore for the first time, there’s a good chance your perfect sunset will involve Marina Bay.
As the sun begins to set, the skyline takes on a golden glow and the waters of the bay reflect the changing colours of the sky. Then, almost without you noticing, the city begins to light up. Marina Bay Sands starts to sparkle, the ArtScience Museum glows and the whole area takes on a magical atmosphere.
One of the things we love most about Marina Bay is that the experience doesn’t end when the sun disappears below the horizon. In many ways, that’s when the real show begins.
Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront promenade, stop for photos at the Helix Bridge or simply find a bench and enjoy watching the city come alive after dark.
If you time your visit right, you can stay for the free Spectra light and water show outside Marina Bay Sands or continue your evening with drinks at one of the city’s many rooftop bars.
Our Insider Guide to Marina Bay has plenty more ideas for making the most of the area.
Why we love it: The quintessential Singapore skyline.
Gardens by the Bay

Watching the sun set behind the Supertrees is one of those experiences that feels uniquely Singapore.
As daylight begins to fade, the giant Supertrees stand silhouetted against the evening sky while the Marina Bay skyline provides a dramatic backdrop. Depending on the weather, you may be treated to shades of pink, orange and purple reflected in the surrounding lakes.
We recommend arriving before sunset and taking your time. Stroll through the gardens, find a spot around the Supertree Grove and enjoy the changing colours of the sky as day turns to night.
And whatever you do, don’t rush off after sunset!
A few minutes later, the Supertrees come alive with the free Garden Rhapsody light and sound show, transforming the gardens into one of the most magical places in Singapore after dark.
For a more relaxed experience, consider heading to Satay by the Bay afterwards for dinner by the water.
Why we love it: The combination of sunset, the Supertrees and the Garden Rhapsody light show makes for a truly unforgettable evening.
Merlion Park

For first-time visitors, it doesn’t get much more iconic than watching the sun set with the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands in the background.
As the sky changes colour, the city skyline is reflected in the waters of the bay and the famous Merlion fountain becomes beautifully illuminated. It’s one of the classic Singapore views and a wonderful place to pause and soak up the atmosphere.
We particularly love visiting just before sunset and then lingering for a while afterwards. While Merlion Park can be busy, there’s usually plenty of space along the waterfront and the crowds tend to thin out once darkness falls.
From here, it’s an easy walk to Marina Bay Sands, the Helix Bridge and the waterfront promenade, making it a perfect starting point for an evening in the city. Or stay for dinner in one of the alfresco restaurants along One Fullerton.
Why we love it: One of Singapore’s most iconic views and a wonderful place to watch the skyline sparkle after dark.
Marina Barrage

If you’re looking for somewhere a little more relaxed, Marina Barrage is one of our favourite places to spend a late afternoon in Singapore.
As sunset approaches, groups gather on the huge grassy rooftop with picnic baskets, children run around flying kites, and couples settle in to watch the changing colours of the sky. The atmosphere feels wonderfully laid-back, and there’s plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the view.
From the top of the barrage, you’ll have panoramic views across Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay and the city skyline beyond. On a clear evening, the combination of golden hour light and the illuminated skyline makes for a beautiful sight.
While the sunset itself is lovely, one of the highlights is simply soaking up the atmosphere. Bring a picnic, grab some takeaway or just sit back and enjoy the breeze as Singapore gradually lights up around you.
Marina Barrage is also popular with families thanks to the open space and relaxed vibe, making it a great alternative to some of the busier spots around Marina Bay.
Why we love it: A relaxed local atmosphere, wonderful skyline views and one of the best places in Singapore for a sunset picnic.
Singapore Flyer

For a truly memorable sunset experience, it’s hard to beat the Singapore Flyer.
As one of the world’s largest observation wheels, it offers breathtaking views across Marina Bay, the city skyline and, on a clear day, even as far as Indonesia and Malaysia. Time your ride for sunset and you’ll be treated to a constantly changing panorama as the sky turns from blue to gold and then gradually darkens.
One of the things we love most about the Singapore Flyer is that you get to experience both sunset and the city lights coming on during a single rotation. By the time you step back onto the ground, Singapore has taken on a completely different character.
The views are particularly beautiful looking towards Marina Bay Sands, the Supertrees and the skyscrapers of the Central Business District.
While tickets aren’t cheap, we think this is one of those experiences that’s worth splurging on, especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion or visiting Singapore for the first time.

Why we love it: Uninterrupted 360-degree views and the chance to watch Singapore transition from day to night from high above the city.
Mount Faber

Perched high above the city, Mount Faber offers one of Singapore’s most romantic sunset settings.
As the sun begins to dip, you’ll be treated to sweeping views across the harbour, Sentosa Island and the southern coastline. The city skyline glows in the distance while ships dot the horizon, creating a scene that feels a world away from the bustle of downtown Singapore.
What makes Mount Faber so special is that it’s not just a place to watch the sunset.. It’s somewhere to slow down and make an evening of it.
For an extra special experience, consider taking the Singapore Cable Car. Watching the sun set as you glide above the harbour to and from Sentosa is a wonderful way to begin the evening.
Another popular option is to book a table at the aptly named Dusk Restaurant. With its hilltop setting and panoramic views, it’s one of the most atmospheric places in Singapore to enjoy sunset drinks or dinner.
You can also combine a visit to Mount Faber with a stroll along nearby Henderson Waves, which is beautifully illuminated after dark.
Why we love it: A romantic setting, sweeping harbour views and plenty of ways to turn a sunset into a memorable evening.
Henderson Waves

If you enjoy combining a sunset with an evening stroll, Henderson Waves is hard to beat.
Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridge winds its way through the treetops and offers lovely views towards the city and harbour. The bridge itself is an attraction, with its distinctive wave-like design and curved wooden ribs creating one of Singapore’s most striking pieces of architecture.
As daylight fades, the bridge is softly illuminated, creating a wonderfully atmospheric setting.
Many people combine Henderson Waves with Mount Faber, either before or after dinner. The walk between the two is easy and makes for a lovely way to spend the evening.
While Henderson Waves isn’t about dramatic skyline views, there’s something special about watching the sky change colour while surrounded by greenery. Once darkness falls and the bridge lights come on, it takes on a magical quality.
It’s also noticeably quieter than many of Singapore’s more famous sunset spots, making it a great choice if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful.
Why we love it: Striking architecture and a beautiful sunset walk through the treetops.
Sentosa Beaches

Sometimes the best way to enjoy sunset in Singapore is with sand between your toes and a sea breeze on your face.
Sentosa’s three beaches each have their own personality, but all offer a wonderful place to slow down and watch the day come to an end.
Palawan Beach
Palawan Beach is our top pick for families. With its calm waters, nearby attractions and plenty of shady spots, it’s an easy place to spend a few hours before sunset.
You’ll also find Splash Tribe beach club, the Skyline Luge and the floating obstacle course Hydrodash here, making it a fun choice for families with older children. FOC by the Beach is a favourite spot for sundowners and dinner.
Why we love it: Family-friendly and wonderfully relaxed.
Siloso Beach
Lively Siloso Beach is the place to come if you’re looking for a bit more energy.
Beach bars, volleyball courts and water sports give the area a fun atmosphere, and it’s easy to continue your evening with drinks or dinner by the sea. Coastes is a great option for casual beachside dining.
Why we love it: A lively atmosphere and plenty of places to continue the evening.
Tanjong Beach
For a quieter and more romantic setting, head to Tanjong Beach.
This crescent-shaped beach feels more secluded than the others and is particularly lovely in the late afternoon when temperatures begin to cool. Enjoy your sunset with a drink at the iconic Tanjong Beach Club, one of Singapore’s most popular beachside hangouts.
Our Insider Guide to Sentosa Island has plenty more ideas for making the most of your visit.
Why we love it: A laid-back atmosphere and one of the most romantic places in Singapore to watch the sun go down.
Royal Albatross Sunset Cruise

For something truly memorable, consider watching the sunset from the deck of the Royal Albatross.
This beautifully restored tall ship sails from Resorts World Sentosa and offers one of the most unique ways to experience Singapore at sunset. As the ship glides past Sentosa and out towards the Southern Islands, you’ll be treated to sea breezes, panoramic views and a front-row seat for the changing colours of the sky.
There’s something undeniably romantic about watching the sun go down from the deck of a tall ship, cocktail in hand and sails billowing overhead.
Even after darkness falls, the experience continues. As the lights of Singapore twinkle in the distance and the city skyline begins to sparkle, you’ll gain a completely different perspective on the island.
Several sunset and dinner cruises are available, making this a wonderful option for couples, honeymooners or anyone celebrating a special occasion.

Why we love it: A unique and romantic experience and one of the most memorable ways to watch the sun set in Singapore.
Changi Point Boardwalk

If Marina Bay is all about glittering skyscrapers and city lights, Changi Point Boardwalk offers something completely different.
There are no observation decks, rooftop bars or light shows here. Instead, you’ll find sea breezes, bobbing boats and one of the most peaceful corners of Singapore.
The aptly named Sunset Walk section of the boardwalk is one of our favourite places to slow down and watch the day come to an end. As the sun sets, you’ll be treated to views across the water towards Pulau Ubin and Malaysia, while fishing boats and ferries drift past in the distance.
We particularly love that there are no crowds, no queues and no rush to be anywhere. Just enjoy the view and watch the sky slowly change colour.
If you’re feeling hungry afterwards, Changi Village Hawker Centre is just a short walk away and is a great place to grab a local meal.
Why we love it: Sea breezes, peaceful surroundings and a completely different side of Singapore.
Labrador Nature Reserve Jetty

If you’re looking for somewhere away from the crowds, Labrador Nature Reserve Jetty offers a completely different sunset experience.
Tucked away on Singapore’s southern coast, this peaceful spot combines sea views, coastal greenery and a fascinating backdrop of ships waiting offshore. It’s a side of Singapore that many visitors never see.
The jetty itself stretches out into the water, providing uninterrupted views across the Singapore Strait. As the sun begins to set, container ships and tankers become silhouetted against the changing colours of the sky, creating a scene that feels both industrial and surprisingly beautiful.
One of the things we love most about Labrador Nature Reserve is the atmosphere. There are no crowds, no ticket queues and no pressure to be anywhere. Just the sound of the waves and a refreshing sea breeze.
Stay after sunset and you’ll be rewarded with the lights of hundreds of vessels anchored offshore. It’s a sight that’s uniquely Singapore and one that many visitors completely miss.
Why we love it: A peaceful setting and a fascinating glimpse of Singapore’s maritime side.
Rooftop Bars

We couldn’t write an article about sunset in Singapore without mentioning the city’s spectacular rooftop bars.
In fact, few cities do rooftop bars quite as well as Singapore. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail high above Marina Bay or watching the lights come on across the skyline, there’s something undeniably special about ending the day with a drink and a view.
From iconic venues like CÉ LA VI and Lantern to craft beer favourite LeVeL33, Singapore’s rooftop bars offer some of the best seats in the city for watching the sun go down.
And just like many of the places on this list, the experience doesn’t end when the sun disappears. As darkness falls, the skyline begins to sparkle and the city takes on an entirely different character.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic evening or simply want to enjoy one of Singapore’s most memorable experiences, a rooftop bar should definitely be on your list.
